Giant Redwoods provide a sense of calm and quality transferring a paddock into an established landscape. Their vertical scale brings instant drama, long term shelter and a landmark quality that only improves with age. At Dart Valley Station the trees formed part of a wider plan to transform a neglected, overgrown land into a working farm to support AD Artisan Wellness Products. This story shows how the right species, planting at scale, quality advice and aftercare combine to give exceptional survival rates and establishment. Below we pair two Sequoia varieties we recommend for shelter belts, avenues and landmark specimens with the real-world results achieved by Arkadiusz and Gerhard.
Client spotlight, see what Dart Valley Station had to say…
“When we discovered our property in Glenorchy in 2015, it was neglected land with overgrown willows and endless thistles. Our vision was to transform it into a thriving farm that could support our artisan wellness brand AD. That transformation required thousands of trees and we needed them to be right.
Everyone told us to expect 20 to 30 percent losses planting in this rough mountain country. ‘Just factor it in,’ they said. But we found Easy Big Trees and everything changed.
Easy Big Trees is a family business that shares our values: uncompromising quality, pride in their work and a commitment to doing things properly. What truly sets them apart is their expertise and genuine dedication to customer success. They didn’t just sell us trees, they gave us invaluable advice on planting techniques, site preparation and species selection for our challenging environment.
The results speak for themselves. After eight years of purchasing exclusively from Easy Big Trees — trees, hedges, shrubs and more — we’ve had only 3 percent losses across our entire 70 hectare property. And those losses? Caused by deer wandering down from Mount Alfred, not the quality of the trees.
The Sequoiadendron in this photo tells the story perfectly. Supplied as a 200 litre specimen in 2017, look at its impressive growth. That’s what happens when exceptional tree quality meets expert guidance.
Beyond their outstanding trees and service, which is fast, reliable and genuinely helpful, we’ve gained something equally valuable: a growing friendship with the entire Easy Big Trees team. When you work with people who care as deeply about their craft as you do about yours, professional relationships naturally become personal ones.
Easy Big Trees has been our only source for trees since we began and they will continue to be. When you’re building something from the ground up you need partners you can trust completely. We’ve found that in Easy Big Trees.”

SEQUOIADENDRON giganteum — Giant Wellingtonia Redwood
Sequoiadendron giganteum avenue, supplied 15+ years ago – West Wanaka
Giant Wellingtonia is the tree to choose when you want true monumentality. It forms a broad pyramidal crown and a substantial trunk that gives immediate gravitas to driveways, gateways and large paddocks. It performs best with good site preparation and generous root room and rewards that investment with dramatic long-term height and presence. Choose Wellingtonia for scale, landmark value and a long-lived shelter that matures into a defining feature of your landscape.
SEQUOIA sempervirens 'Korbel' — Upright Californian Redwood Korbel
10+ year old
Sequoia sempervirens Korbel 300L
8+ year old
Korbel is a tighter, more columnar Redwood that brings Redwood character where width is limited. It establishes quickly into a tall narrow form with dense grey green foliage, making it ideal for shelter belts, avenues and narrow planting strips. Korbel gives the vertical impact of a Redwood without the full spread of larger cultivars and suits sites where a strong vertical silhouette is needed more than breadth. Use Korbel for formal shelter, screening and where a clear vertical line is desired.
