LAURUS nobilis – Bay Laurel 🌿

LAURUS nobilis - Bay Laurel

The LAURUS nobilis – Bay Laurel, is a compact, evergreen shrub, with it’s narrowly ovate leaves, and high gloss finish, we’d suggest this makes a worthwhile addition to your garden as an excellent screening plant, or it may be trimmed into a tight hedge of topiary.

As to that good fortune, Caesar used bay leaves to form his laurel wreath, providing protection against accidents and conspiracies.  Although we have to admit it failed miserably with the latter.  For cooks, it’s more useful, and the bay leaf is used extensively in Mediterranean cooking. They offer a most distinctive fragrance but should be removed from cooking before eating.

Tolerant of coastal conditions, this hardy evergreen will grow to 5 x 3 metres.
