Viburnum Lucidum 🌸

VIBURNUM tinus 'Lucidum'

This week we’re highlighting the popular hedging choice, Viburnum Lucidum.  It has darl, oval shaped leaves that are wonderfully glossy, reflecting sunlight to make the hedging shimmer and sparkle.  Strongly fragrant pinkish-white flowers add a dash of contrast and colour in winter, continuing well into spring.

The flowers are particularly attractive to bees, busily going about the work that is so essential to every garden.  At the same time, berries which vary in colour from blue, to red and black, bring the birdlife.  It’s a scene reminiscent of the mind’s projection of an old English countryside, where nature is awash with life and young people cheerily greet each other as they pass on bicycles with baskets on the front.

The Viburnum Lucidum is an evergreen that can grow to 5 x 3m.
