Small NZ Native Kowhai Trees, Cook Strait kōwhai, Molloy’s kōwhai or Stephen’s Island kōwhai

A smaller-growing kowhai that maintains a compact bushy-dark green form. Has golden bell flowers early winter and again in spring. Attractive small tree. Semi-deciduous depending on severity of winter, grows to 1.5–2m.
