Also known as ‘Autumn Blaze, this fiery red of Autumn is arguably the most spectacular of all Canadian maples. There’s a depth and richness to the red which almost seems otherworldly. It’s almost unexpected given the deep green of of summer months, although that tell-tale maple leaf shape is probably a giveaway as to the show to come. Fast growing and resistant to cold winds (for a maple tree) the Freemans Maple makes for an impressive shelter or screen, that wonderful oval head reaching from 8 to 10m.
Suitable for: Avenues, group or specimen plantings.
Features: More wind tolerant than other Maples, excellent gold, orange and crimson red autumn.
Botanical Name: ACER freemanii ‘Autumn Blaze/Jeffers Red’
