Brilliant crimson red flower crowning this beautiful semi rare NZ tree, signalling summer break has arrived. This unique Native tree is mainly located in the lower South Island and Fiordland and also areas of Central Otago (mainly near lake edges and in forest valleys). A compact growing tree with attractive branched crown and bright red new spring growth highlighting against fine deep forest green foliage. A very popular addition to any Native plantings, also popular for a celebration or memorial tree. Hardy to exposed coastal conditions and windy sites, tolerating lighter frosts although, best kept sheltered or away from heavy frost sites. Grows to approx. 5 x 3m (in sheltered bush, big 100+ year old specimens can reach 8-10)
